Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) Programmes [JS6963]

BEng in Civil Engineering
BEng in Civil Engineering (CivE)

Civil Engineering is the art and science of utilizing natural resources and power for the beneficial use of mankind. Civil Engineers are responsible for the design, construction and safe-keeping of our infrastructure and built environment.  They ensure that our buildings, roads and bridges are safe and effective, our stormwater drainage systems are adequate to prevent flooding, our wastewater are collected and treated properly to protect our environment, and all components of our infrastructure are functioning in a safe, comfortable and sustainable manner.

BEng in Computer Science
BEng in Computer Science (CompSc)

Computer science is not just programming and study of computers, but rather is about problem solving – the study of algorithms and information representation to make productive use of computing technologies. The discipline ranges from theoretical studies of computation to design and implementation of complex computer systems. This is a young but fast growing discipline, with profound impact on the society and our daily lives.

BEng in Computer Engineering
BEng in Computer Engineering (CE)

The Computer Engineering programme prepares students for the multidisciplinary field of computer engineering, covering areas in software design, electronic system design, as well as hardware-software integration. It is jointly managed by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and the Department of Computer Science. The two departments bring together rich resources, with many laboratories, substantial teaching and research facilities, and expertise in a diverse array of areas. Our students can enjoy the widest choice of courses, and have the chance to choose their specialization as they discover their real interest after joining the programme.

BEng in Electrical Engineering
BEng in Electrical Engineering (EE)

The Electrical Engineering programme is designed to provide students with a sound fundamental education in all areas of electrical engineering. As electrical energy is the backbone of modern civilization, the programme has received overwhelming support from the government and leading industries, including the offer of many scholarships, prizes, training places and employment. The core of the programme equip students with fundamental knowledge in electrical engineering, including electromagnetic theory, energy conversion, electronics, communications, signal processing, information technology, control theory, computers and software engineering. Through the choice of electives, students may subsequently specialize in electrical energy related areas, such as electric power systems, electric railways, electric vehicles, power electronics and building services. Our aim is to educate students to become professional electrical engineers to meet the societal needs.

BEng in Electronic Engineering
BEng in Electronic Engineering (ElecE)

The Electronic Engineering programme was evolved from our traditional Electrical and Electronic Engineering programme with a particular emphasis on electronics technology. It has the longest history among similar programmes in Hong Kong and represents a fundamental engineering training applicable to a wide range of areas and applications. This programme has a balanced core and a flexible elective structure designed to equip our graduates in communications technology, electronics and microelectronics, digital signal processing and information technology.

BEng in Industrial Engineering and Logistics Management (IELM)
BEng in Industrial Engineering and Logistics Management (IELM)

The BEng(IELM) programme focuses on technology and management tools which integrate the whole lifecycle of product and service design and development, procurement, operations, and logistics from raw materials to customer satisfaction. This programme aims at developing students’ ability to acquire the relevant skills for the global business environment, together with an integrated view towards problem solving in industrial, logistics and service systems.

BEng in Mechanical Engineering
BEng in Mechanical Engineering (ME)

Mechanical Engineering is a discipline at the heart of engineering. Indeed, nothing can move in the modern world without the participation of mechanical engineers. In transportation, motor cars, trains, mass transit railway systems, ships and aeroplanes are designed by mechanical engineers. Factories producing mechanical, electronic products cannot run smoothly without mechanical engineers. Power stations would come to a halt without mechanical engineers. These are only a few, but important, examples. They illustrate that mechanical engineers are trained to cope with a variety of challenges and have a very broad career spectrum.

Bachelor of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering [BEng(BME)] [JS6925]
Bachelor of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering [BEng(BME)] [JS6925]

Biomedical engineering (BME) has constantly been playing an integral role in advancing modern biomedical basic research and clinical practices – thus ultimately improving health and quality of life. Recognizing many opportunities and challenges ahead in this rapidly changing field, the BEng(BME) programme (formerly known as the BEng in Medical Engineering) aims to train a new generation of biomedical engineers who can apply quantitative engineering analysis to understand the working principle of living systems, and design novel solutions to address unmet needs in biomedicine, especially for healthy ageing.
