HKU-Cambridge Undergraduate Recruitment Scheme (Engineering)
The “HKU-Cambridge Undergraduate Recruitment Scheme (Engineering)” is jointly offered by The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the University of Cambridge (Cambridge) for BEng students of HKU, such that selected students can gain 4 degrees upon successful completion of 5 years of studies at both HKU and Cambridge.
The Scheme
Under the “HKU-Cambridge Undergraduate Recruitment Scheme (Engineering)”, selected BEng students will study the first two years at HKU, and continue their studies at Cambridge for their third to fifth year of studies. Upon successful completion of the five years of studies, students will be conferred the Master of Engineering, the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and the Master of Arts degrees by Cambridge, and the Bachelor of Engineering degree by HKU.
Quota and Selection Criteria
As the “HKU-Cambridge Undergraduate Recruitment Scheme (Engineering)” is a competitive scheme for high calibre students with excellent academic credentials, the number of selected students for each cohort will not normally exceed 10. Students will be evaluated on their English proficiency as well as Science and Mathematics knowledge.

Eligibility
All first year students reading for the BEng, BEng(BME), BEng(EngSc) and the Global Engineering and Business programme admitted to the Faculty of Engineering in the academic year 2023-2024 are eligible to apply. BEng(CompSc), BASc(FinTech) and BEng(DS&E) students are not eligible for the Scheme.

Screening Test
The Screening Test will be held in January 2024, and will mainly test the students’ science and mathematics knowledge, and will be of a duration of 2 hours.
Students who perform excellently in the Screening Test will be shortlisted for interview, which will be held in November/December 2024.
UCAS Application
Shortlisted students are required to apply for admissions to Cambridge via UCAS by mid-October 2024 (subject to change) for entry to Cambridge in 2025. Details on the application will be provided to shortlisted students in due course.
Engineering Admissions Assessment (ENGAA)
Shortlisted students aspiring to study Engineering at Cambridge will have to attend the Engineering Admissions Assessment to be held in October 2024 (subject to change) administered by the British Council Hong Kong.
Interview
All shortlisted students under the Scheme will have to attend an admissions interview chaired by senior member(s) of the University of Cambridge in November/December 2024.
Conditional and Firm Offers
After the interview held in November/December 2024, students selected for the Scheme will be given a conditional offer in January 2025. Upon satisfying the requirements as stipulated in the conditional offer letter by the end of the student’s second year of studies (June 2025), he or she will be given a firm offer to study at Cambridge from October 2025.
Academic Advising
Academic Advising sessions on applications to Cambridge will be offered to shortlisted students after the Screening Test.

Scholarships
- Student may apply for scholarships sponsored by Cambridge Overseas Trust.
- Students may apply for scholarships by the Colleges of Cambridge.
Curriculum Structure
Selected students will (i) complete research internship in the summer of their first and second year of studies and (ii) undertake the capstone experience in the summer of their third and fourth year of studies at HKU. Details will be provided to selected students in due course.
Confidentiality of Assessment
Each student registered for the selection of the Scheme has to sign an undertaking that he or she will not disclose any content of the screening tests, assessments and interview to another person without the written consent of the Faculty of Engineering, HKU and the Department of Engineering, Cambridge. Violation of the confidentiality undertaking will result in disqualification of the application.
