Faculty Academic Advising System
The Academic Advising System of the Faculty provides guidance and support for students throughout their undergraduate studies. It facilitates students’ transition from secondary school to university and offers students academic advice and guidance which can suit their needs.
First Year Advisers
Each student will be assigned a First Year Adviser (FYA). The FYAs will offer advice and guidance to students on academic matters such as course enrollment, programme selection, career plans, etc. in their first year of studies. Students can contact their advisers via the SIS.
The FYAs may refer students to the Academic Advising Office for further advice on academic matters or to relevant University units for follow up on non-academic matters, whenever appropriate.
Peer Mentors
Students will also be assigned a Peer Mentor (a senior year student), who will offer advice and information to facilitate freshmen’s adaptation to their first year of studies, and to provide information on course enrollment, programme selection and career planning alongside with FYAs.
Faculty Academic Advisers
Students will be assigned an academic adviser from their Home Department after they have selected their study programme in the beginning of their second year of studies, who will provide programme-specific academic advice and career planning.
Academic Advising and Scholarships Office at HKU
Students are welcome to seek academic advice from the Academic Advising and Scholarships Office (AASO) at HKU. AASO is staffed with experienced advisers and administrators who are committed to helping students, especially in the first year, to enable a smooth transition and develop appropriate study plans.
