Congratulations to Dr Tony Feng of the Department of Mechanical Engineering who has been elevated as Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry and Fellow of Institute of Materials, Minerals, and Mining.
Mechanical Engineering scholar selected as a member of the Global Young Academy

Professor Anderson Shum of the Department of Mechanical Engineering selected as a new member of the Global Young Academy effective from June 2021 for a tenure of five years.
Soft magnetic skin for tactile sensor design for robotics application

Dr Jia Pan of the Department of Computer Science, and his team had worked on a research for the topic “Soft magnetic skin for super-resolution tactile sensing with force self-decoupling”. The research has been published by Science Robotics on February 24, 2021.
Engineering academics awarded four Gold Medals and four Silver Medals at 2021 Inventions Geneva Evaluation Days

The University of Hong Kong reaped a total of eleven awards at the Special Edition 2021 Inventions Geneva Evaluation Days. Among the eleven awards, engineering academics received 4 Gold Medals and 4 Silver Medals.

Mechanical Engineering student team developed robotic fish sets Guinness World Record for the second time

SNAPP, the robotic fish invented by a student-staff team led by the Department of Mechanical Engineering had achieved new record for the fastest 50m swim by a robotic fish in 22.92s .
Student achievements

The HKU team “BTCHoli” won the first place at the first blockchain hackathon in Hong Kong organised by MIT Hong Kong Innovation Node, Algorand Foundation, and HashKey Group between February 26 to 28, 2021.
