    Five engineering academics named Highly Cited Researchers of 2019 by Clarivate Analytics

    Among the thirteen academics of the University of Hong Kong being named “Highly Cited Researchers of 2019” by Clarivate Analytics, five of them are from Engineering. They are Professor Zhang Tong of the Department of Civil Engineering, Professor Yiu Siu-ming of the Department of Computer Science, Dr Kaibin Huang of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Professor James Lam and Professor Dennis Leung of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

    An invention to convert low-grade waste heat to usable electricity

    Dr Tony Shien-Ping Feng of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and his team invented a Direct Thermal Charging Cell (DTCC) which can effectively convert heat to electricity, creating a huge potential to reduce greenhouse effects by capturing exhaust heat and cutting down primary energy wastage.

    Technical cooperation between HKU and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Authority to promote the development of smart transport system in the Greater Bay Area

    The University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Authority signed a strategic collaboration agreement and jointly established the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Greater Bay Area Transport Construction and Intelligent Maintenance and Safety Operation Engineering Technology Research Centre with universities, research institutes and enterprises in the Greater Bay Area, with the aim to deepen collaboration on the operation and maintenance of large-scale transport infrastructure in order to promote technological advances in transport infrastructure.
