Developed by the three Musketeers from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), Professor Ron Hui Shu-yuen, Professor Tan Siew-chong, and Dr Lee Chi-kwan, Smart Grid allows renewable energy to become more applicable by improving the sustainability of the energy supply.

    Worldwide scholars gathered at HKU for the 5th International Symposium on Environmental Dimension of Antibiotic Resistance

    With the support from the HKSAR's Environment and Conservation Fund, Center for Water Technology and Policy of HKU, Wellcome Trust, WYNG Foundation and Resistomap Oy, the 5th International Symposium on Environmental Dimension of Antibiotic Resistance (EDAR) was successfully held at HKU from June 9 to 14, 2019.

    Developed by Dr Beta Yip Chi-lap and Dr Ivy Wong Ka-yan of the Department of Computer Science, a mobile app “HKcBirds Common Birds of Hong Kong” was selected as one of the “Top 10 Healthy Mobile Phone/ Tablet Apps” in the 2018 Meritorious Websites Contest Healthy Mobile Phone / Tablet Apps Contest.

    Artificial Intelligence for Swimmer Safety and Performance Analysis System in secondary schools

    Dr Wilton Fok, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and his team was awarded HK$3.9 million from the Innovation Technology Fund Better Living Fund for the development of Artificial Intelligence for Drowning Detection and Swimmer Performance Analysis System. The technology will be deployed in the new swimming pool in two schools, Mansung College and Fung Kai No.1 Secondary School.

    Among 192 competitors from all over the world and a majority of research teams, “HKU DuckieTown Team” formed by six engineering undergraduates seized a 2nd runner-up in the lane-following challenge of the “AI Driving Olympics” held by the Duckietown Foundation at the International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) in Montreal, Canada.
