Partnership with TCL to set up “HKU-TCL Joint Research Centre for AI” to foster research development in Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The Faculty of Science and Faculty of Engineering of the University of Hong Kong received HK$30 million from TCL Corporation (TCL), which will be used to support artificial intelligence research undertaken at the “HKU-TCL Joint Research Centre for AI” for five years.
Efficient nanofibrous membrane to filter heavy metals and bacteria

A research team led by Professor Tang Chuyang of the Department of Civil Engineering has invented an efficient and highly permeable nanofibrous membrane that can effectively filter various contaminants in water, particularly heavy metals and bacteria, making it valuable in disaster relief in addition to everyday use. The invention won a Gold Medal at the 47th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva earlier this year.
Inauguration of The Hong Kong Young Academy of Sciences

Dr Niu Sanyuan, Miss Yang Yi and their supervisor Dr Wei Pan of Department of Civil Engineering received the Best Paper Award at the Modular and Offsite Construction (MOC) Summit 2019 held in Canada for their paper entitled “Logistics Planning and Visualization of Modular Integrated Construction Projects Based on BIM-GIS Integration and Vehicle Routing Algorithm”.
The Best Tutorial Paper Award from IEEE Communication Society

Dr Kaibin Huang of Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering received the 2019 Best Tutorial Paper awarded by IEEE Communication Society for a vision paper he co-authored with other leading researchers in the area.

Dr Kwok Ka-wai of Department of Mechanical Engineering and his team won the Best Poster Paper (Second Place) at the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) 2019 in Montreal, Canada.
