Dr Chow Kam-pui, Associate Professor of HKU Department of Computer Science who has over 30 years in computer forensics, is interviewed to explain his decision to set up a start-up company “CISC Limited” in 2016 to study cyber information as requested by clients.
CISC Limited is a research spinoff company carrying the technology and innovation from Centre for Information Security and Cryptography (CISC) of Department of Computer Science.
Intelligence as a Service (IaaS) Platform, the major service provided by his start-up, is a powerful data analytics tool to transform vast public data to intelligence through artificial intelligence (AI) deep learning and natural language processing (NLP) technology. It helps customers to extract related information, including post content and comments, from social media platforms, online forums and auction sites.
The platform analyses the sentiment and uses scores to determine whether the posts are positive or negative. Analysis reports will be submitted regularly to allow customers to know more about the market position and comments of their brand and products. When there are some extremely negative reviews on the Internet, the system will notify the client immediately. IaaS platform analyses data to monitor public opinion, and helps customers to formulate marketing and public relations strategies.
Dr Chow, also the Associate Director of the CISC at HKU, also provided services in cyber intelligence and cyber security consulting service and solutions for corporates.
