The annual awards for research excellence under the Outstanding Researcher Awards Scheme and the Research Output Prize aim to recognise, honour and reward exceptional work in research by staff of the University. This year, engineering academics were being awarded in all the four categories.
Distinguished Research Achievement Award (DRAA)
Professor Ron Hui Shu-yuen, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering
This is the highest research honour at The University of Hong Kong. Candidates have achieved international distinction and to be at the forefront of their chosen field.
Outstanding Researcher Award (ORA)
Professor Edmund Lam Yin-mun, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering
This award is presented to candidates for their exceptional research accomplishments of international merit, giving recognition to experienced academics who have amassed impressive bodies of work.
Outstanding Young Researcher Award (OYRA)
Dr Paddy Chan Kwok-leung, Department of Mechanical Engineering
This award gives recognition to young researchers who are demonstrating extremely high quality research. Candidates must be below the age of 40.
Outstanding Research Student Supervisor Award (ORSSA)
Professor Kenneth Wong Kin-yip, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering
This award recognizes supervisors of research postgraduate students whose guidance has been of particular help to their students in the pursuit of research excellence.
