The University of Hong Kong held the 2018 International Symposium on STEM Education from 22 to 24 June 2018. This symposium was jointly organized by HKU Academy for the Talented, Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering and the Common Office with a theme “Cities on the Move”. It attracted over 80 students from Hong Kong and nineteen countries (Canada, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kenya, South Korea, Latvia, Republic of Macedonia, Malaysia, Morocco, Nigeria, Portugal, China, Taiwan, Tanzania, Turkey and the United States) to participate in and discuss how advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR) and other new technologies can be applied to daily life and improve the quality of life.

Professor Tsui Lap-Chee, the President of The Academy of Sciences of Hong Kong, was invited to deliver a welcoming address at the opening ceremony. He was happy to see so many overseas participants joining the event. He believed STEM was not only a subject or a course, but a method to stimulate students’ curiosity and to train them how to solve problems.

More details of the symposium can be obtained from https://www.imse.hku.hk/events/stem.
