Professor Ben Young from the Department of Civil Engineering and his collaborators from the University of Lisbon, Portugal received the Best Research Paper Prize in June 2016 for the paper “Local-Distortional Interaction in Cold-formed Steel Columns: Mechanics, Testing, Numerical Simulation and Design” by A.D. Martins, D. Camotim, P. B. Dinis and B. Young. The tests of cold-formed steel columns were conducted at The University of Hong Kong. The best research paper prize in the Journal of Structures published by Elsevier is in recognition of the outstanding research conducted by the authors. The prize was presented in the “People and Papers Awards Ceremony” organized by the Institution of Structural Engineers on 8 June 2016 in London. A monetary award of £250 was received. The Institution of Structural Engineers is the world's largest membership organisation dedicated to the art and science of structural engineering. The Institution has over 27,000 members working in 105 countries around the world.
