Professor Yunhe Hou and Professor Han Wang named IEEE Fellows, Class of 2026

Professor Yunhe Hou and Professor Han Wang from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering have been elected as Fellows of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for the Class of 2026.

IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership in IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organisation dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. The distinction is reserved for select IEEE members whose extraordinary accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest are deemed fitting of this prestigious grade elevation. Less than 0.1% of voting members are selected annually for this member grade elevation, following a rigorous evaluation procedure by the IEEE Fellow Committee.

  

Professor Yunhe Hou has been recognised for his contributions to theory and decision support tools for power system restoration.

 

Professor Han Wang has been honoured for his contributions to 2D transistor technology.

Professor Kevin Tsia elected as Optica Fellow, Class of 2026

Professor Kevin Kin-Man Tsia from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering has been elected to the Optica Fellow Class of 2026, one of the most prestigious honours in the field of optics and photonics. He is recognized for pioneering contributions to high-speed optical microscopy and high-throughput imaging cytometry.

 

The distinction of Optica Fellow is reserved for members who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in research, education, engineering, business, and service to the optics and photonics community. With Fellows limited to no more than 10 percent of Optica’s total membership worldwide, the election process is highly competitive.

Professor Nicholas Fang named SES Fellow by the Society of Engineering Science

Professor Nicholas Fang, Chair of Photonics Innovation from the Department of Mechanical Engineering has been named SES Fellows by Society of Engineering Science (SES). The SES Fellowship is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional achievements in research, innovation, and leadership in engineering science.  


His research spans micro- and nanotechnology, focusing on scalable manufacturing techniques for wave-functional materials and devices. Fang’s innovations in energy conversion, optical communication, and biomedical imaging have led to over 16 patent applications in nano- and micro-fabrication, additive manufacturing, and imaging technologies. Many of these patents have demonstrated strong industry relevance and have been adopted by startups and other commercial entities.

Professor Mingxin Huang among newly elected HKAE Fellows 2025

Professor Mingxin Huang of the Department of Mechanical Engineering has been named among the Newly Elected Fellows of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences (HKAE) for 2025, for his pioneering inventions in advanced steels, including anti-COVID stainless steel and ultra-corrosion-resistant alloys for green hydrogen.

HKAE Fellows are a distinguished group from various disciplines, who are recognised as leaders in their professions, with remarkable achievements in engineering sciences and applications. Eleven professionals were inducted as Fellows this year.
