Hong Kong Construction Association Lo Pan Award Award Presentation Ceremony 2025

Dec 30, 2025

The Faculty of Engineering together with the Hong Kong Construction Association (HKCA), proudly hosted the second annual Lo Pan Award Presentation Ceremony at the MSc Student Commons on November 20, 2025. The event honoured five outstanding students for their contributions to Project Mingde, while also celebrating an international accolade for a student-led architectural initiative.

Dean of Engineering Professor David Srolovitz opened the ceremony, highlighting the enduring legacy of Lo Pan, the legendary master craftsman, and the spirit of ingenuity and societal commitment embodied by Project Mingde. HKCA President Mr Simon Liu then addressed the audience, reaffirming the Association’s commitment to nurturing future leaders in construction and engineering.

Established in 2023, the HKCA Lo Pan Scholarship is a flagship youth empowerment program of the HKCA. The program aims to support local university students pursuing studies or careers in construction-related disciplines, recognizing those with exemplary academic results, leadership, community service, and integrity. Through this scholarship program, the HKCA hopes to inspire talented individuals to become future leaders in the construction industry.

This year’s awardees are:

Mr Jakie Yu

Ms Man Kwun Po

Mr Wilson Wu

Mr Ryan Tsang

Mr Hayden Ng

Notably, Mr Wilson Wu received the award for the second time and announced his decision to donate his award funds to the Project Mingde Student Association, furthering opportunities for future members.

International Recognition for Student-Led Architecture

The ceremony also spotlighted a remarkable achievement: the Duling Educational and Cultural Centre in Guangxi, a non-profit initiative of Project Mingde designed by architect Ms Elisabeth Lee and realized by HKU students, was named Architizer A+ Jury Winner in the Concepts – Architecture + Community category. This marks the project’s second international accolade. Ms Lee, together with participating students, presented the award to the Faculty of Engineering.

The event concluded with a speech by Professor Jay Siegel, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning), who praised the awardees and contributors for embodying HKU’s mission of innovation, compassion, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
