The Department of Data and Systems Engineering (DASE) hosted the NSFC-RGC 2025 Conference in Lee Shau Kee Theatre, Centennial Campus, HKU from April 25-28, 2025. The “Frontiers of Digital Twins in Intelligent Manufacturing and Smart Cities” Conference aims to explore and advance the forefront of Digital Twin, management of complex systems in intelligent manufacturing and smart cities could be enhanced or transformed, ultimately contributing to more efficient and sustainable urban development in the Greater Bay Area (GBA).
Professor Ray Y. Zhong from DASE HKU and Professor Qinglin Qi from Beihang University served as General Chairs of the conference. Co-organised by young faculty members from 5 local universities and 9 mainland universities, the conference was also supported by National Center of Technology Innovation for Digital Construction (Hong Kong Branch) and The Industrial Big Data and Intelligent Systems Chapter under The Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society (CMES).
With around 300 participants, this conference featured leading researchers sharing their academic work related to Digital Twin in manufacturing and construction, including:
- Professor Xiangsheng Chen (Chinese Academy of Engineering) from Shenzhen University
- Professor Anthony G.O. Yeh (Chinese Academy of Sciences) from HKU
- Professor Lihui Wang (Canadian Academy of Engineering) from KTH
- Professor Zhiliang Gao (Russian Academy of Engineering)
- Professor George Q. Huang from PolyU
- Professor Fei Tao from Beihang University
Professor Xiaobo Yin, Associate Vice-President of HKU; Professor Yang Lu, Associate Dean (Mainland Affairs) of HKU and Professor Liang Gao Vice-President of HUST delivered welcome speeches at the opening ceremony. Professor David Srolovitz - Dean of the HKU Engineering attended the Gala Dinner and Award Ceremony and presented the Best Conference Paper First Prizes to the awardees.
