Professor Yang Lu has been conferred the Kingboard Professorship in Materials Engineering. The Kingboard Professorship in Materials Engineering embodies the donors’ commitment to fostering innovation in materials science and engineering.

This endowed professorship recognises Professor Lu’s contributions to experimental nanomechanics, nanomanufacturing, and advanced materials research. His research has significantly advanced the understanding of nanoscale mechanical properties and the development of cutting-edge nanomanufacturing techniques, leading to breakthroughs in designing next-generation materials with applications in electronics, energy storage, and biomedical devices. Aside from over 150 high-impact journal publications and a robust portfolio of interdisciplinary collaborations, his accolades also include the UGC Early Career Award (2013/14), the inaugural NSFC Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Hong Kong and Macau 2019), and the RGC Research Fellow Scheme (2020/21). Since 2017, he has served as Associate Editor for Materials Today. He also has been an elected member of the Hong Kong Young Academy of Sciences (YASHK) since 2022.
