Professor Reynold C.K. Cheng was recognised by Knowledge Exchange Excellence Awards 2024 as a member of the project “JC JoyAge” which led by Professor Terry Yat Sang Lum from Department of Social Work and Social Administration, Faculty of Social Sciences. The project is a community-based supporting network for older adults with depressive symptoms in Hong Kong.
The Knowledge Exchange Excellence Award is a prestigious university-level recognition given to outstanding KE accomplishments that have had significant economic, social, environmental, and cultural impacts to benefit society.

ii) Professor Reynold C.K. Cheng honoured with the prestigious Social Capital Builder Logo Award at the 2024 Social Capital Builder Awards
HINCare, a cloud-based platform under the Social Technology and Research Laboratory (STAR Lab) at HKU, has been honoured with the prestigious Social Capital Builder Logo Award at the 2024 Social Capital Builder Awards.
Developed by Professor Reynold C.K. Cheng, Division Head of Computer Science at CDS, HINCare is a cloud-based platform that uses AI technologies to support volunteering among multiple NGOs and charity organisations. Through a built-in heterogeneous information network (HIN), the platform suggests and matches potential helpers from social networks, and recommends them to the elderly care organisations involved.
The 2024 Social Capital Builder Awards was organised by the Community Investment and Inclusion Fund (CIIF) under the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau of the HKSAR Government. The CIIF promotes the development of social capital in the community through a variety of social capital development programmes. Since 2012, the Awards aims to commend individuals, corporations and organisations for their contributions to the development of social capital in Hong Kong, as well as to publicise their achievements in collaboration and social capital building.

iii) Professor Francis Au, Dr Yingqi Liu and Mr Ho Kit Siu have been awarded The HKIE Best Transactions Paper Prize 2024
Professor Francis Au from the Department of Civil Engineering, Dr Yingqi Liu (PhD 2021) and Mr Ho Kit Siu (BEng 2019, MSc(Eng) 2023) have been awarded the HKIE Best Transactions Paper Prize 2024 for the paper published in HKIE Transactions Volume 30 Number 3 titled "Longterm performance of hybrid MiC buildings considering concrete creep and shrinkage”
Established in 1999, the HKIE Best Transactions Paper Prize is an annual award recognising exceptional papers in the HKIE's academic journal. This year, three distinguished papers were honoured, each receiving a cash prize of HK$5,000, along with a plaque and a certificate.

iv) Cryptocurrency investigation platform co-developed by HKU and Hong Kong Police Force wins international award
CryptoTrace, an advanced cryptocurrency investigation platform jointly developed by HKU and the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) of Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF), was awarded Gold Medal at the 4th Asia Exhibition of Innovations and Inventions Hong Kong (AEII). The 4th AEII, held between 5 and 6 December 2024, was organised in partnership with Palexpo, Geneva, the organiser of the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva.
The HKU research team was led by Professor Siu-Ming Yiu, Associate Director (TPg) of CDS and Professor of the Department of Computer Science. Leveraging cutting-edge blockchain analytics, graph and visualisation technologies, CryptoTrace enables cybercrime investigators to effectively trace crime proceeds that were laundered via various cryptocurrency platforms. This innovative investigation platform also helps the investigators to track down important information about the locations of the suspects, collects crucial investigation hints and streamlines probes into scams involving digital currencies. The HKU research team will continue to work with HKPF to tackle emerging high-tech crimes to make Hong Kong a stable and safe place.

v) Dr Hongyang Du has been named the recipient of the Young Professional Award for Best Early Career Researcher at IEEE GLOBECOM 2024
Professor Hongyang Du from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering were presented the 2024 IEEE Communication Society (ComSoc) Young Professional Award for Best Early Career Researcher at the IEEE GLOBECOME 2024. This award recognises exceptional young researchers under the age of 35 for their creativity, research impact, and contributions to ComSoc activities.
