Two CDS PhD students awarded IEEE Signal Processing Society scholarships
Two PhD students from The School of Computing and Data Science have been awarded the 2024 Signal Processing Society (SPS) Scholarships, in recognition of their dedication to pursuing signal processing education and real-world experience. The SPS, the first society established by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), is the world’s leading professional organisation for signal processing scientists and practitioners. This year, the SPS scholarship supports 45 outstanding students, with each recipient receiving a scholarship of US$1,500.

An ME PhD Graduate awarded the 2024 3rd IETI PhD Fellowship Award
The IETI PhD Fellowship Award is a prestigious honour, specifically established for doctoral students who are currently enrolled in their doctoral programs or have completed their doctoral degrees within the past one year (calculated according to the application time and before the deadline). This award aims to recognize and encourage doctoral students who have achieved outstanding accomplishments in learning, research, project funding, awards, international cooperation, and social services. The awardees cover multiple disciplines, with particular attention paid to research in fields such as artificial intelligence, sustainable development, interdisciplinary sciences, and future technologies.

11 CDS undergraduate and postgraduate students received HKU-SCF Scholarship in Financial Technology for the academic year 2024-25
A presentation ceremony was held for the HKU-SCF Scholarship in Financial Technology for the academic year 2024-25 at HK FinTech Week on 28 October, 2024. The scholarship is part of a wider initiative by the HKU-SCF FinTech Academy, generously supported by the Standard Chartered Hong Kong 150th Anniversary Community Foundation. The HKU-SCF FinTech Academy aims to attract and nurture promising students who are poised to drive the future development of FinTech in Hong Kong and beyond. This scholarship reflects the Academy’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and innovation in the field of FinTech.
This year, a total of 11 students with outstanding entrance examination results have been awarded scholarships from the Academy. These students are currently pursuing the Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Financial Technology (BASc(FinTech)) or the Master of Science in Financial Technology and Data Analytics (MSc(FTDA)) programme at HKU. Undergraduate students receive an entrance scholarship of HK$50,000, while postgraduate students receive HK$60,000.
