We are thrilled to announce the success of the first-ever “HKU Engineering Alumni High Table Dinner" co-organised with the H.K.U. Engineering Alumni Association (HKUEAA) on September 30, 2024 (Monday) at the iconic Loke Yew Hall! Around 300 esteemed alumni, including retired professors, current students, and Faculty members, gathered for this special occasion, fostering connections across generations. Notably, Ir Choi Yu Leuk, the most senior alumnus who graduated in 1960, joined the event and returned to his alma mater.
After Professor David Srolovitz’s opening remarks to update the Faculty’s latest development, Ir Michael Fong, Vice-President of Event and Programme at HKUEAA, shared the exciting plans of the association's upcoming Golden Jubilee celebrations from April 2025 to March 2026. With a celebration theme of "Honoring Our Past, Shaping Our Future", it emphasises the commitment to preserving heritage while embracing future innovations and challenges. Our Guest of Honour, Ir Eric Ma Siu-cheung, GBS, JP, President of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and Executive Director and CEO of New World Development Company Limited, shared insights on the unique roles of HKU Engineering, HKUEAA, and HKIE in enriching the professional landscape for engineers in Hong Kong and beyond.
The dinner reached its peak with the presentation by current students – Daniel Lee Hicks and Jose Alberto Espino Pitti – on the "AI Historian Assistant" project, showcasing the use of technology in blending the past and the future, followed by the wonderful A Cappella performance from the HKU Group, Mosaic. Special thanks to Daniel, and Michelle Chiew, our UG alumna and current Master student, for taking on the MC role.
We are dedicating to organising more alumni activities and we look forward to welcoming more HKU Engineering Alumni in our future events.
