Dr Hayden K.H. So of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering received 2021 IEEE-HKN C. Holmes MacDonald Outstanding Teaching Award.

The C. Holmes MacDonald Outstanding Teaching Award was established in 1972. It is intended to recognise the central and crucial role of college professors in training and motivating future electrical, computer and allied field student engineers who have demonstrated special dedication and creativity in their teaching responsibilities within the first six years of their academic professorial career. Therefore, it is in part, a counterbalance to the significant pressure for research and publication performance on early-career professors, and a re-affirmation of the basic and essential needs of excellence in teaching.

Dr So, contributed immensely to engineering curriculum design through his project-led learning pedagogy, according to his nomination. He redesigned the introduction to electrical & electronic engineering course for all first-year engineering students. The new course emphasized heavily the design thinking processing.
