Four faculty members received funding support from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust (The Trust) to set up JC STEM Lab for research projects.
Working with the Government, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and community partners, the Trust is committed to improving the quality of life of the people of Hong Kong. The Trust also proactively identifies and initiates projects that anticipate future community and social needs.

Professor Li Lain-Jong (Department of Mechanical Engineering)
Project name: JC STEM Lab of Advanced 3D Integrated Circuit Technology
Description: The JC STEM Lab of Advanced 3D Integrated Circuit Technology will provide local researchers an excellent platform to study the critically important M3D integration technologies. The research involves new dielectrics materials, engineering of novel metal surfaces for wafer bonding, low temperature and low stress welding of wafers, and control of bonding precision accuracy.

Professor Kosuge Kazuhiro (Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering)
Project name: JC STEM Lab of Robotics for Soft Materials
Description: The JC STEM Lab of Robotics for Soft Materials will conduct fundamental robotic research for handling objects made of soft materials, in collaboration with the Centre for Transformative Garment Production, and promote and transfer its proprietary to manufacturers / stakeholders related to the field worldwide.

Project name: JC STEM Lab of Advanced Materials and Intelligent Manufacturing for Energy and Sustainability
Description: The general research area is at the interfaces Energy and Sustainability, Materials Sciences and Mechanical Engineering, and the Design, Synthesis, and Scalable Manufacturing of Functional Micro-/Nano-structures.

Professor Xu Dong (Department of Computer Science)
Project name: JC STEM Lab of Multimedia and Machine Learning
Description: With this funding support, his team will carry out world-class research in computer vision and machine learning and develop cutting-edge deep learning technologies for various computer vision and multimedia applications. The JC STEM Lab of Multimedia and Machine Learning will attempt to establish a state-of-the-art GPU based high performance computing (HPC) platform to support computing intensive and GPU memory demanding AI research in HK.
