Research Grants Council (RGC) Research Fellow Scheme 2021/22
Dr Huang Kaibin of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering has been granted research funding from the Research Fellow Scheme of the Research Grants Council (RGC).
Dr Huang’s research project “Application-Aware Wireless Communication for 6G Intelligent Edge” will receive a fellowship grant of around HK$5.2 million for a 60-month fellowship period.
The RGC Research Fellow Scheme aims to provide sustained support and relief from teaching and administrative duties to exceptionally outstanding researchers at Associate Professor rank (or full Professor rank) at UGC-funded universities in Hong Kong, with a view to facilitating their full dedication to research and development and helping universities attract and retain research talent.

SIGMOD Research Highlight Award 2021
Professor Reynold C.K. Cheng of the Department of Computer Science and his team received the Special Interest Group on Management of Data (SIGMOD) Research Highlight Award 2021 with their paper titled "Efficient Directed Densest Subgraph Discovery".
The SIGMOD Research Highlight Award is an Association for Computing Machinery award for the database community to showcase a set of research projects that exemplify core database research. In particular, these projects address an important problem, represent a definitive milestone in solving the problem, and have the potential of significant impact. The award aims to make the selected works widely known in the database community, to our industry partners, and potentially to the broader ACM community.
