MSc EEE student wins the Champion Team Award in the Microsoft 2018 Internship Job Hack

MSc student Guo Yu of the Department of EEE won the Champion Team Award in the Microsoft 2018 Internship Job Hack in Microsoft Office, Hong Kong on March 9, 2018. He presented the project “Points Trading Platform Based on Blockchain Technology and Machine Learning” in the competition.

CS Team wins the Champion of ISACA Student Group Annual Case Competition 2018

 "Wolves of U Street" from HKU wins the championship at the ISACA Student Group Annual Case Competition 2018. 

Congratulations to "Wolves of U Street" for winning the championship at the ISACA Student Group Annual Case Competition 2018. ISACA Student Group Annual Case Competition 2018 is a joint-university case competition organized by the CityU, UST and HKBU ISACA Student Groups. The team comprised of Koo Chak-yin (BEcon&Fin - Year 5 / Minor in CS), Michelle Wang Yih-chyan (BEng(CS) - Year 4) and Ng Chun-wai (BEcon&Fin - Year 5).

 

 

Engineering team wins the Champion of the Interdisciplinary Research Competition 2018

A team led by PhD student Li Huihua of the Department of Mechanical Engineering won the Champion in the Interdisciplinary Research Competition 2018 jointly organized by the Graduate House, Postgraduate Student Association and Graduate School of HKU to promote interdisciplinary research amongst postgraduate students. The team “Dancing Ear Group” comprised of five research students from Departments of Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. They presented their project “3D Printing System for Cartilage Repair” and won the Champion.

 

 

Mechanical Engineering Year 4 student wins the Best Poster Prize of University Research Fellowship Programme 2017-18

Professor Ian Holliday, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) presents the Prize to ME student Shakurur Rahman. Dr Anderson Shum (left) offered his laboratory to Shakurur to conduct his research.

Under HKU's University Research Fellowship Program, Shakurur Rahman, a Year 4 student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, conducted a research project in the laboratory of Dr Anderson Shum in summer 2017. He presented a poster titled “Interfacial folding of aqueous two-phase systems using flow oscillations” on April 16, 2018 and was awarded the Best Poster Prize in the Poster Session.

 

 

Avatar Team of HKU-EEE wins two prizes in the First China (Hengqin) International University Quantitative Finance Competition

The Avatar team with Ray Li Zhi-Xi, PhD student of the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, won the Third Prize in the First China (Hengqin) International University Quantitative Finance Competition. HKU was awarded as one of the “Excellent School Teams” in the final round of competition. In addition, the project advisor, Dr Vincent Tam, won the outstanding advisor award.

Mechanical Engineering students gets the 2nd runner-up in the IMechE 7th Greater China Region Design Competition

A team from Department of Mechanical Engineering, comprised of Sadek Mohammad Jafar, Li Fo Man, Jayasundara Herath Mudiyanselage D.C., Akhtar Noman, Kazi Asad and Ng Chun Hei, won the 2nd runner-up in IMechE 7th Greater China Region Design Competition held on March 24 to 25th, 2018.

Cheung Yau-mei (Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering) and Chiu Pit-cheung (Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering) were awarded in the Innovation and Technology Scholarship Award Scheme 2018. The scheme was organized by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups and the award presentation ceremony was held on April 23, 2018.

Four teams were awarded seed fund in HKU DreamCatchers 100K Programme

HKU DreamCatchers 100K is an entrepreneurship seed fund for young entrepreneurs to kick start their businesses, and to experiment and realise their dreams. The Final Pitch of the Programme was held on April 15, 2018. Three teams from the Faculty of Engineering awarded $100,000 Grand Prize respectively, while one team won the $50,000 Junior Prize.

$100,000 Grand Prize Awardees:

- Gense (Person-in-charge: Russell Chan (BEng 2011; PhD in Mechanical engineering 2016)

- HitPower (Person-in-charge: Vivian Huang (PhD in Mechanical engineering 2017)
