Champion of The ICE HKA G&S Model Building Competition
A Year 3 Civil Engineering student project team won the Champion of The Institution of Civil Engineers Hong Kong Association Graduates and Students (ICE HKA G&S) Model Building Competition. Participants are required to build a model made of balsa wood within the time limit of 3.5 hour. The bridge model should span 1200mm and the type of bridge model is not restricted. The model will be tested by applying dynamic loads onto the bridge, followed by a wind load test in a wind tunnel laboratory. Marks would be awarded based on the presentation of the team, the efficiency of bridge design, and the performance in the load tests.
The ICE HKA G&S Model Building Competition is an annual competition whereby participating teams, formed by civil engineering undergraduates, represent their own university and compete against each other by applying their technical knowledge and creativity to practical use. Besides, participating teams are required to present their engineering justification of the model design to the judging panel formed by a collective group of renowned professionals in the civil engineering field.
