After two inspiring lectures on dancing robot and industrial robot, Professor Kazuhiro Kosuge, Hung Hing Ying Distinguished Visiting Professor in Science and Technology, gave his third public lecture on “Robotics and Transformative Research” on April 8, 2019.

Professor Christopher Chao, Dean of Engineering, kick-started the lecture by mentioning the recent agreement signed between the University of Hong Kong and Tohoku University for a closer collaboration in transformative AI and Robotics Technologies. He believed the strategic partnership will open up new technologies for the transformation of the manufacturing industry and of mega cities.

Professor Kosuge first discussed how the robotics foundations will be enhanced through the development of new robot applications or services. He also shared some robot systems that were developed by his laboratory and the research results concerned with multiple mobile-robots coordination, physical human-robot interaction, co-worker robots, universal manipulation, etc. Furthermore, Professor Kosuge introduced the concept of the transformative research which play an important role in the development of new robots.

The lecture was inspiring and attracted a full house attendance.
