Computer Science Department showcased projects to Mrs Carrie Lam at HKU x Cyberport FinTech Nucleus

Mrs Carrie Lam, the Chief Executive, and Dr George Lam, Chairman of Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited, visited HKU x Cyberport FinTech Nucleus at Cyberport’s Smart Space FinTech on February 22, 2019. Mr Hailson Yu, Deputy Director of Technology Transfer Office, introduced HKU x Cyberport Fintech Nucleus to Mrs Lam and highlighted the latest HKU research and technology development in the FinTech area and Mrs Lam was pleased to see the contributions from HKU in supporting the rapid development of Fintech in the city.

Among the showcased projects, HKU SHIELD and Brain Investing Limited were developed by staff and alumnus of the Faculty of Engineering. HKU SHIELD is developed by Dr Chow Kam-pui and HKU research lab Center for Information Security and Cryptography (CISC) of the Computer Science Department. This Smartbox SHIELD is a very unique cybersecurity technology for performing intelligent packet filtering in order to protect clients against DDoS attack and ensure their business are not being impacted. In addition, Brain Investing Limited is a FinTech start-up founded by Dr Yiu Siu-ming and his PhD student of Department of Computer Science. It was supported by Technology Start-up Support Scheme for Universities (TSSSU) of the Innovation and Technology Commission of the Government of HKSAR. It provides an all-in-one Fintech solution with cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies and helps investment companies and institutions achieve better performance with their AI strategy research and execution platforms.

HKU x Cyberport Fintech Nucleus is a platform for promoting HKU technologies and innovations in Fintech to the Cyberport Centre of Global FinTech Innovation. Fintech Nucleus provides live technology showcases developed by HKU start-ups for engaging with potential customers, and facilitates collaborations among HKU and other FinTech stakeholders in the region.
