Fifteen academics of the University of Hong Kong have been named by Clarivate Analytics in the list of "Highly Cited Researchers 2018" among the world's top researchers. Among the fifteen, four are from Engineering – Professor Zhang Tong of Civil Engineering, Professor Wallace Choy of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Professor James Lam and Professor Dennis Leung of Mechanical Engineering. Highly Cited Researchers are selected for their exceptional research performance, determined by production of multiple highly cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and year in Web of Science. Their works have been highly cited by fellow academics and are hence making a significant impact in ongoing research in their respective fields of study. In addition, the University commissions a search to identify the top 1% scholars at HKU every year. The database adopted for this exercise is Essential Science Indicators (ESI), which uses data from Web of Science indexed journal articles with results presented in 22 subject fields. For the year of 2018, 114 HKU colleagues made it to the list, among whom 28 (24.6%) are from the Faculty of Engineering. EEE tops our list with 13 colleagues, followed by 6 from Civil, 5 from Mechanical, 3 from Computer Science and 1 from IMSE.
