The delegation, comprised of thirteen representatives of the Faculty, visited Alibaba Headquarter for a comprehensive understanding of their digital technology development. They brought up discussions on possible collaboration opportunities on areas like engineering research and technology transfer on Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Analytics, as well as management of innovation centre. In addition, eight delegates were invited to introduce their research projects to over 250 Alibaba staff at DAMO Academy, a global research and development initiative set up by Alibaba.
Besides, the delegation paid a visit to HKU Zhejiang Institute of Research and Innovation (HKU-ZIRI) in Zhejiang. Professor Huang Lixi, Chief Scientist and Director of the Lab of Aerodynamics and Acoustics at HKU-ZIRI, gave a brief overview of ZIRI to our delegates. They were arranged to visit the facilities and exchange views with officials on different topics such as ways to strengthen technological innovation in Hong Kong and Zhejiang. Professor Chao suggested that a faculty-level platform could be established to leverage research and education opportunities. He believed it would foster the collaboration between Hong Kong and Mainland China especially on technological innovation and training of talent.
