IMSE students won the championship of HKIE Young Engineer Programme 2016/17
Young Engineer Programme 2016/2017 aims at broadening the horizon of participants (Yeppers), as well as to promote the Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering (MIE) profession. In order to achieve these aims through inspiration, Yeppers were encouraged to attend a series of seminars and technical visits.
The programme was held from October 2016 to March 2017. During the programme, a wide range of MIE applications/real practices in the society were demonstrated to the Yeppers through Local and China Visits.
After the local visits, Yeppers had a 20 minutes team presentation in March 2017 to share their experience on the programme and how they can inspire the future students to join the YEP in order to meet the theme of “Smart Manufacturing”.
IMSE student team won the Champion of the Maritime & Logistics Hackathon 2017
Student team consisted of Fernaldy Soegianto, Shun Haginouchi and Wu Jian Tony from Department of IMSE won the Champion of the Maritime & Logistics Hackathon 2017.
The Hackathon is one of the feature events in the Hong Kong Maritime Week. Participants were given a set of carrier service network and vessel sailing schedule data for completing the work within 40 hours.
This event invites participants to provide innovative ideas with supportive data. It is intended to promote the maritime and logistics industries among University students though this event, demonstrating how modern technologies could be beneficial to these traditional industries.
CS PhD Candidate is selected for HKIS-Towngas Young Scientist Award
Daniel Elber, a PhD candidate supervised by Dr Giulio Chiribella, is selected for the HKIS-Towngas 2017 Young Scientist Award in Physical/Mathematical Science. His research presentation on "Optimal Quantum Networks" at the Hong Kong Institution of Science (HKIS) Annual Conference held on December 2, 2017 won him a cash prize of $10,000 and a certificate of recognition.
The objective of this award is to reward young scientists and engineers in Hong Kong who show great promise in their field of study, with the hope that this will nurture the growth of science and technology in the region. Award selection is based on evidence of research excellence in science or technology and the potential to become a good scientist or engineer.
HKU Graduate School holds Award Presentation Ceremony for Outstanding Research Postgraduate Students
A total of 66 research postgraduate students of various disciplines received awards on December 13, 2017 (Wednesday) at the Award Presentation Ceremony of the University of Hong Kong Graduate School. The recipients were selected based on the quality of their thesis and academic performance.
