Professor Andy Hor delivered a speech
On March 17, 2017 Zhejiang Institute of Research and Innovation (ZIRI) held a spring symposium. Professor Andy Hor (HKU Vice-President (Research) and Director of ZIRI), Professor Mai Har Sham (Associate Vice-President (Research)) and Mr. Baoping Pang (Deputy Mayor of Lin’an City and Vice-Director of Science and Technology City Management Committee) attended the symposium and delivered a speech. Acting Executive Director of ZIRI, Professor Lixi Huang of Department of Mechanical Engineering presided over the symposium.
In his speech, Professor Andy Hor pointed out that ZIRI was committed to transforming research into practical applications, with the aim of collaboration between universities and enterprises. The purpose of this symposium is to attract more domestic and foreign experts, scholars and partners, to carry out the transformation of scientific research. This symposium focused mainly on 4 research areas, including new material, biological medicine, energy and environment. In addition to the participation of a number of professors from the University of Hong Kong, the symposium also invited over more than 20 scholars and experts to give speeches. They came from Zhejiang University, Zhejiang University of Technology, Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Jiangsu University, Academy Military of Medical Science in Beijing, New York University Shanghai, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Institute of Materials Research and Engineering of Singapore Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). More than 40 graduates from Zhejiang University, Zhejiang University of Technology, Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, and China Jiliang University attended this symposium. Some enterprise leaders and experts came from Zhejiang Province, Qingshan Lake, Guangdong and Beijing. The symposium provided a good platform between academics and enterprises for both scientific research and sharing.
Apart from that, Dr. Li Wendi of Department of Mechanical Engineering received RMB$1.5 Million research funding from Zhejang Government for the study of high transparent and conductive metal-mesh plastic substrate and it's application in electronics devices. The research will be conducted in Zhejiang Institute of Research and Innovation (ZIRI).
