2013 MedE Alumni Re-union
Medical Engineering Society, ENS, HKUSU and Medical Engineering Programme called up a re-union for the MedE alumni in 2013. This event has started since 2011, and it was extended to the current students this year. It was encouraging that more than 50 alumni, current students and teachers joining together on this special day to share and catch up on each other. It also provided an opportunity to current students to meet up their senior fellows.

2011 Biomedical Engineering Career Workshop
2011 Biomedical Engineering Career Workshop organized by Medical Engineering Programme, will be held on June 3 (Friday), 2011 at the Wang Gungwu Theatre, the Graduate House, at The University of Hong Kong.
This workshop aims to introduce students to the career prospects in biomedical engineering and assist them in choosing a career which is compatible with their skills and interest.

Poster Exhibition
The Poster Exhibition for Year-1 Medical Engineering students was held last Friday, 15 April 2011.
Having interviewed with teachers from Engineering and Medicine Faculties on a biomedical engineering problem, students are encouraged to solve it on their own, and present what had been learnt and explored in this poster presentation.
Through this presentation, students are given an opportunity to develop skills such as problem-solving, interviewing, and presentation, and apply their knowledge and skills to a real medical engineering problem.

Building a stronger town and gown relationship - The Visit of Hong Kong Medical and Healthcare Device Industries Association (HKMHDIA) to HKU
A half-day visit was co-organized by the Medical Engineering Programme (MedE) and the HKMHDIA to the local medical device industry on Apr 30, 2010.
The visit aimed to provide a platform to bring together academics and industrial practitioners to exchange knowledge and ideas, and explore collaborations through exploiting the commercial potential of technological breakthroughs.
The event attracted more than 30 participants from local medical device companies. During the visit, industrial practitioners were introduced to the latest biomedical research development in areas such as MRI, Medical Ultrasound, Biomedical Materials, Photochemical crosslinking and tissue bonding and Airway Inflammation.

Information Day
"Information Day for Undergraduate Admissions 2009" of The University of Hong Kong (HKU) was held on October 24, 2009.
Thousands of prospective applicants and their families visited the University on the event day to learn more about the various undergraduate programmes and gain an insight into what it would be like to study at HKU. A selection of talks that explain the Engineering Faculty admissions system, exhibitions and research displays were given throughout the day.
MedE teachers, a number of students currently on courses and recent graduates were also available to talk to visitors.
An informative poster exhibition and demonstration was arranged. In addition, admission talks were given to enable prospective students to learn more about our courses and its career prospects.
Guided tours to laboratories such as the Tissue engineering lab, Biomedical engineering lab, and Biomedical imaging and signal processing lab were also conducted.

Seminar for Gifted Students
To introduce secondary-school students in Hong Kong to the field of biomedical engineering, the Programme Office organized an outreach seminar entitled "What is Biomedical Engineering?" on August 14, 2009 (Friday) at HKU campus in collaboration with the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education (HKAGE). There are over 40 gifted students join this occasion.
The seminar was delivered by one of our core faculty members, Dr. Alfred Yu, and a team of postgraduate students working in biomedical engineering. In the plenary session, the participants were given an overview of biomedical engineering and its various branches. It was followed by two interactive mini-lessons that gave participants a hands-on opportunity to try out medical ultrasound scanning and electrocardiogram measurements.
Through this seminar, participants were able to develop their own working definition of biomedical engineering and give some examples on the societal impact of this discipline.
Career Development Talk
Perhaps there is no better way to grasp the quintessence of a profession than to learn from the insiders who have been there. In order to help students to identify a clearer future career path upon graduation and better equip themselves for the keen competition in the market, the Programme Office organized a Career Development Talk on April 28, 2009 (Tuesday) at HKU.
Senior managements of various companies and organizations including St. Paul's Hospital, ASTRI, MediConcepts Limited, IDS Group and Associated Manufacturing Supply Co. Ltd. were invited to provide first hand information about the biomedical engineering industry and share their secret tricks to success. Mr. Alex Wong, the fresh graduate of the programme also shared his valuable experience with the students.
Through active and direct interactions with the guest speakers, students benefited from the valuable sharing and having a better understanding of the prospect of biomedical engineering industry and how they could prepare for the opportunities and challenges ahead.
Faculty of Engineering Distinguished Lecture
Prof. Dov Jaron, Calhoun Distinguished Professor of Engineering in Medicine, School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems, and Professor of Electrical Engineering, Drexel University, USA, delivered a lecture entitled "Mathematical modeling of Nitric Oxide Transport in the Microcirculation" in HKU on March 17, 2009.
