Professor Victor O.K. Li of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and his team awarded the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) Healthy Longevity Catalyst Awards.

The Healthy Longevity Catalyst Awards are part of the Healthy Longevity Global Competition, a multiyear, multistage, and multimillion-dollar international competition seeking potential breakthrough innovations aiming to extend human health and function later in life. In the 2021 cycle of the Catalyst Awards, innovators around the world submitted more than 1,000 applications and around 10% of them were awarded. Among the 10% of awardees, only 5 are from Hong Kong. Professor Li’s team is the only team in Hong Kong led by staff of the Faculty of Engineering.

Each Catalyst Award includes a US$50,000 cash prize for a period of 12 months as well as travel costs to attend an annual Innovator Summit. International Catalyst Awardee and finalists who have made significant progress on advancing their ideas and preferably achieved proof of concept may apply for an Accelerator Award (US$300,000 to US$1 million, or more) and for the Grand Prizes (up to US$5 million) in the second and third phases of the Global Competition.
