Quantum physicist Professor Giulio Chiribella from the Department of Computer Science and Professor Tang Chuyang from the Department of Civil Engineering are two of the awardees of the Senior Research Fellow Scheme 2020/21. Their project, "Quantum causal discovery and the foundations of quantum artificial intelligence" and "Novel Polyamide Reverse Osmosis Membranes with Enhanced Mass Transfer and Integrity for Highly Efficient Water Reuse" have been awarded a HK$7.8 million fellowship grant for a period of 60 months respectively.

Another project entitled "Intelligent 3D imaging cytometer for scalable and hierarchical single-cell spatial profiling" by Professor Kevin Tsia, Programme Director of Biomedical Engineering Programme, was granted funding under "Research Fellow Scheme" in which he will receive HK$5.2 million grant for a 60-month fellowship period.

The RGC Research Fellow Scheme (RFS) and Senior Research Fellow Scheme (SRFS) aims to provide sustained support and relief from teaching and administrative duties to exceptionally outstanding researchers at Associate Professor rank (or full Professor rank) at UGC-funded universities in Hong Kong, with a view to facilitating their full dedication to research and development and helping universities attract and retain research talent.
