Oct 19, 2017

Dr Anthony Ng of WYNG Foundation addressed the meeting

WYNG Foundation and Mr Leslie Chung have pledged a donation to set up a research centre which focuses on water technology and policy.  The Centre will be jointly operated by the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Social Sciences.  The proposed research centre, subject to the approval from the Council, is expected to become a focal point for promoting research excellence in the area of water science, technology and water policy that are important for Hong Kong.  It is expected that teaching and training activities on water technology and water policy will be arranged to the university students and local professionals.  In addition, its research findings on water technology and water policy issues will be disseminated to the public and the government to benefit the Hong Kong community.

A meeting with donor representatives was held in October 2017 where Professor X.Y. Li of Faculty of Engineering and Dr Frederick Lee from Faculty of Social Sciences, presented to the representatives from WYNG Foundation and Philomathia Foundation about the expected deliverables in terms of research, teaching, knowledge exchange and impact to the society of the research centre.

Dr Anthony Ng of WYNG Foundation hoped that the “3I+I” strategic direction of The University of Hong Kong, namely Internationalisation, Innovation, Interdisciplinarity and Impact, could be further upheld by the establishment of the research centre.
