Connecting HKU Engineering 2016

Aug 26, 2016

Over 220 freshmen parents attended “Connecting HKU Engineering” held at Loke Yew Hall

With a view to providing a platform for parents of the freshmen of BEng programmes to better understand the Faculty and the first year experience of new students, a sharing session - “Connecting HKU Engineering” - was held on August 26, 2016 at Loke Yew Hall. This year we received an encouraging number of around 220 freshmen parents joining us to understand the Faculty’s vision in grooming their children to become future leaders. Parents were very enthusiastic to learn about student’s campus life, the Faculty’s laboratory facilities, as well as the unique experience and ample opportunities that lie ahead.

Ir Ma Siu Cheung, Eric, JP, Under Secretary for Development of the HKSAR Government

One of the programme highlights was sharing from guest, alumni and students. This year, we were honoured to have Ir Ma Siu Cheung, Eric, JP, Under Secretary for Development of the HKSAR Government, to share his experience and vision with the audience.  Ir Ma graduated from this University in 1986 with a degree in Civil Engineering.  As an engineer by profession with over 25 years of experience in the construction industry, Ir Ma shared with us his expectations to Engineering students and the development of the Engineering industry in Hong Kong in the next ten years.

This was followed by sharing from Dr. Kevin Tsia, Associate Professor of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, on his story of deciding to pursue a research and teaching profession. Thanks to a group of alumni, including Dr. Tang Yik Sau Abraham and Mr. Man Ka Ho Matthew, and students Mr. Wong Ho Ching Harry and Miss Sarah Cheung, for sharing their experience on career choice, internship, exchange, etc. They have presented a more in depth picture of what university life means for engineering freshmen.
