NSFC/ RGC Joint Research Scheme funds HKU Engineering research teams

Jan 18, 2016

There are four research teams funded by the NSFC/ RGC Joint Research Scheme. The four projects are: Advancing Transportation Systems Analysis by Integrating Safety Evaluation by Prof. S C Wong; Mechanistic study of the degradation of multiple indoor air pollutants through Vacuum UV photocatalysis by Prof. Yiu Cheong Leung; Photonic Integration in GaN Membranes on Silicon by Dr. H W Choi; A comprehensive functional ultrasound imaging framework: the assessment of vascular mechanics for the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases by Dr. Wei-Ning Lee.

Advancing Transportation Systems Analysis by Integrating Safety Evaluation

Professor S.C. Wong (Principal Investigator of the Hong Kong Team) from Department of Civil Engineering , and Professor Helai Huang (Principal Investigator of the Mainland Team) from School of Traffic and Transportation Engineering of Central South University, have been awarded HKD 1.2M (Hong Kong) and RMB 1M (Mainland) funding for a joint project entitled “Advancing Transportation Systems Analysis by Integrating Safety Evaluation” for four years from 2016-2019 from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) / Research Grants Council (RGC) Joint Research Scheme 2015/16. The project team is comprised of transportation researchers from The University of Hong Kong, Central South University, University of Central Florida, and Tsinghua University. This project will develop a proactive, system-wide and quantitative approach to preventing crash occurrences through the integration of safety evaluation into transportation system analysis with the ultimate aim of establishing inherently safe transportation networks.
